Costa Mesa — The O.C. Fair closed the 2022 season this weekend with multiple sold-out days, a wide variety of food, drinks, events and nostalgic ’80s bands like X, Psychedelic Furs and tribute band Devotional (Depeche Mode).

PFurs got the Pacific Amphitheatre crowd standing from the start with their classic “Love My Way” and the fever didn’t cool through other hits such as “Pretty in Pink” and the melancholic “This’ll Never Be Like Love.”

Now with more than 40 years in the rear view mirror since their founding, Los Angeles-based band X still draws enthusiastic crowds.

Lead singer Exene Cervenka, guitarist Billy Zoom, bassist John Doe and drummer D.J. Bonebrake had the audience up on their feet and dancing to their classics “Los Angeles,” “Your Phone’s Off the Hook, But You’re Not,” and “White Girl” among the 18-song set. Cervenka said she was glad to be home back in SoCal after five weeks of touring with the PFurs.

Friday’s show at the Hangar had music fans of all ages swaying to the industrial synth-pop sounds of Depeche Mode recreated by tribute band Devotional. The crowd sang along to many of the now classic new wave tunes that defined the ’80s and ’90s.
