Vanguard swept out of nationals

MOBILE, Ala. ? The season came to an abrupt end for Vanguard University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams Wednesday with identical 5-0 losses in the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championships.
The Lions women were defeated by Golden State Athletic Conference rival Azusa Pacific. The men were blanked by the University of Auburn-Montgomery.
Making their third consecutive quarterfinal appearance, the sixth-seeded Vanguard women (19-6) were throttled in the three doubles matches and No. 3 Azusa Pacific closed out the match with two straight-sets singles victories.
The men (11-12), who were the lowest seed remaining in the tournament at No. 10, were also swept in doubles and lost their first two singles matches to No. 2 Auburn-Montgomery. Vasileios Psyrras and Michael Martin made it close at No. 2 doubles, losing, 9-7, to Victor Sanakapapi and Nikola Miskovic.
