GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Newport Harbor def. Los Alamitos
NEWPORT BEACH — Katie Wells recorded a career-high 22 kills and added 11 blocks to lead the Sailors to a share of the Sunset League title with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-27, 25-20, 18-16 victory Thursday.
Alesha Young contributed 46 assists, 20 digs and three kills, Megan Munce 11 kills, 15 digs and two aces, Jamie Heenan seven digs and Alex Penniwell six blocks and four kills for the Sailors (21-5, 8-2 in league).
Newport enters the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs as the No. 2 seed from the Sunset League, because Los Al defeated the Sailors in three games earlier in the season. Newport plays at rival Corona del Mar tonight at 6.
Sage Hill def. Whitney
NEWPORT COAST — Colleen Heyler recorded seven kills and three aces in the Lightning’s 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 Academy League victory Thursday.
Kelly Lawler added 24 assists, four kills and three aces for Sage (10-16, 6-4 in league), which finished third in the league.

Orange Coast League finals
COSTA MESA — The Estancia High girls team won its first league title, and the boys finished second at Fairview Park Thursday. The Costa Mesa boys and girls finished third.
Sidney Barloon led Estancia, finishing second in 19 minutes, 26 seconds. Alexa Aguilar (third in 20:16) and Paula Negrete (fourth in 20:19) followed and Mesa’s Emily Cotton came in fifth (20:28).
Sindy Ramirez (seventh in 20:39); Karina Rios (ninth in 21:07); Magali Onofre (10th in 21:20) and Eunice Rodriguez (11th in 21:30) also contributed to the Eagles’ championship. Courtney Green (15th in 22:15) Wendi Way (16th in 22:23), Cheyanne Lopez (19th in 23:44), Alyssa Nunez (20th in 24:08), Brittany Way (22nd in 24:16) and Mireya Mojica (23rd in 24:47) also competed for the Mustangs.
On the boys side, Estancia’s Fernando Orozco came in third in 16:28. Wes Barloon (fifth in 16:51), Adrieo Robles (sixth in 16:56), Enrique Vivar (eighth in 17:13), Damien Leon (ninth in 17:18), Cesar Casillas (11th in 17:23) and Andy Navarette (14th in 17:49) followed.
Mitch Friedman (13th in 17:37), John Zapeta (15th in 18:19), James Stucker (18th in 19:20), Jason Rosello (19th in 19:30, John Sudveck (20th in 19:40), Drake Burnette (21st in 19:45) and Oscar Diaz (22nd in 19:53) also competed for Mesa.
Pacific Coast League finals
ORANGE — The Corona del Mar High girls team won the league meet and title, and the boys were edged by Laguna Hills to finish second at Irvine Regional Park Thursday.
Sarah Cummings captured the individual title, finishing in 16 minutes, 47 seconds. Shelby Buckley (third in 17:31), Allison Damon (fifth in 17:49), Laura Bilder (sixth in 18:00), Hilary May (seventh in 18:01), Christie St. Geme (ninth in 18:19) and Nichole Slykhous 12th in 18:44) followed.
The CdM boys tied with Laguna Hills, 32-32, but the Hawks’ sixth runner finished 11th and the Sea Kings’ sixth came in 12th. Laguna Hills also won the league title. CdM’s Tim Scott finished second in 15:17, three seconds behind league champion Phillip Brown of Laguna Hills.
Tommy Hutchison (fourth in 15:21), Thomas Dialynas (fifth in 15:28), Trei-Vien Nguyen (ninth in 15:53), Ryan Licorich (12th in 15:59), John Leonard (18th in 16:23) and Curtis Converse (20th in 16:25) also competed for CdM.

Newport Harbor 2 (sudden-death shootout)
MOORPARK — Amanda Shaw and Katy Storch scored a goal each for the Sailors, but the Wolverines came back in a semifinal of the Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions at Moorpark College Thursday.
Jackie Sanchez assisted on Storch’s goal for a 2-0 lead. But, Harvard-Westlake scored twice, the latter coming on a penalty corner with three minutes left. After a scoreless 10-minute overtime period, the teams tied, 1-1, on penalty-shootout strokes. Newport, the Sunset League champion, missed its first shot on the final sudden-death strokes, then Harvard-Westlake connected on its attempt to win the game. The Sailors will play for third place Saturday at 1 p.m. at Marina.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Sunset League finals
SEAL BEACH — Newport Harbor High’s Alex McIntosh and the doubles team of Sasha Dunlap and Chrissy Schwartz advanced to today’s championship matches at 2:30 p.m. at the Seal Beach Tennis Center.
Schwartz and Dunlap defeated an Edison doubles team, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals, while McIntosh reeled off a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win over Melanie Abella of Esperanza.
McIntosh faces the top seed, Los Alamitos’ Alyssa Nafarette. Dunlap and Schwartz take on Katie Moore and Joceyln Liu of Los Al.
Orange Coast League finals
COSTA MESA — Estancia High’s Ellie Edles, along with the Eagles’ doubles team of Abby Koff and Jennifer Johnston, advanced to the semifinals on Thursday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Edles beat Alex Yates-Robinson of Laguna Beach, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. Today, she will face Lyndsay Kinstler of Laguna Beach in the semifinals.
Koff and Johnston got by Courtney Franklin and Marenna Bielman of Calvary Chapel, 6-4, 6-4, in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis.
Action resumes today at 1 p.m. at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Pacific Coast League finals
LAGUNA HILLS — Corona del Mar High’s Hailey Hogan and Melissa Matsuoka advanced to today’s singles semifinals, while the Sea Kings have an all-CdM semifinals in doubles after winning on Thursday.
Hogan faces the top seed, Laguna Hills’ Brittany Rosen and Matsuoka is up against Beckman’s Megan Henneghan. In doubles, the team of Jill Damion and Cierra Gaytan-Leach play against Michelle Atkins and Kelly McKitterick. The Lindsay Zotovich-Karen Issii tandem take on twin sisters Hayley and Miranda Young. All matches are at 1 p.m.
